Background

Ms. Lalande began her career in commercial litigation and insurance law. Among other accomplishments, she represented the interests of insurers in a major class action suit. Since 1985, she has focused her practice on commercial and real estate law. She currently represents a number of real estate investment funds, including pension plans, real estate developers, financial institutions, property owners, real estate managers and service companies. She advises them on corporate and project structure; the negotiation and drafting of framework and specific agreements; partnership agreements; development, management and purchase/sale contracts and financing.

She has been a legal advisor for the Canadian Institute in Research on Cultural Industries (ICREC), which was established to promote research into new multimedia technologies. Her services were retained by the Canadian Minister of Justice to represent the interests of the federal government with respect to the creation of the ICREC, which involved the negotiation, drafting, execution and monitoring of several research programs and contracts across Canada.

She has led numerous training sessions for banking executives on issues related to collateral and securities and has drafted several standard form contracts in this regard for financial institutions.

Ms. Lalande is a member of the CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) Network and sits on the organization’s communications committee.
