Mr. Gauthier has focused his practice on commercial and real estate law, including the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements. He specializes in commercial leases and co-ownership/condominium issues. His counsel and strategic input have been a tremendous asset in complex cases involving large commercial property owners and managers. Among the clients he represents are a government environmental agency as well as several financial institutions, developers, contractors, commercial property owners and managers, real estate brokers and various condominium-related organizations.
Mr. Gauthier is regularly asked to speak at the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), the Canadian Institute and other similar organizations. He has lectured on condominium law at the Continuing Legal Education Service of the Quebec Bar and before groups of Quebec Court judges. He is a regular guest lecturer in the MBA program at the University of Quebec in Montreal, where he has shared his insight into commercial leases and lessor-lessee relations with students majoring in real estate.
He has taught civil procedure at the Faculty of Law of the University of Montreal and is a past member of the Quebec Bar subcommittee for the revision of civil procedure. In this capacity, he worked with his fellow subcommittee members to look into the enforcement of orders and judgements (seizures). In addition, he teaches at the Montreal Bar School, where he also prepares and corrects tests and teaching materials. He has represented the Bar School in a number of legal matters and led a mission to Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam on behalf of the Bar School.
